Roo Mexico's Kopelman Family
The owner/hosts of the Cozumel based Amigo's Bed and
Breakfast chain are the Kopelman Family. The members of the family are
Bob, Kathy, Tatiana and Zachary.
We welcome you to our homes!
Bob was born in Brooklyn New York. He completed Stuyvesant
High school in Manhattan and Vassar College in upstate New York.. It was
during his days at Vassar, in completing his BA in Anthropology that his
love for travel evolved.. He spent time studying in Colombia South America
as part of the requirements for his degree in Latin American
studies. With this exposure to a foreign country began a love for
travel that later in life would be his means of living...
For many years Bob worked as a tour guide or tour escort taking both general interest groups as well as specialty groups ( doctors, nurses, astronomers among other groups) to remote parts of the world. It was also during his years at Vassar that Bob first had contact with Cozumel, taking a spring break vacation to the island.. A few years later, Bob was assigned a job in Cozumel working as a destination coordinator for a New York based charter operator.. It is during this time that he fell in love with the island and decided that it would be his home.. In the early -mid 80s along with a former classmate he formed a house and condo rental company called At Home In Cozumel.. Bob continues to oversee his company and to travel to remote areas of the world. This travel though now a days is for pure pleasure and personal enjoyment. Kathy also hails from the Big Apple, having grown up in the Bronx. She completed St. Barnabas elementary and high schools.. From the age of 4, Kathy always knew she wanted to be a nurse, so in order to pursue that, she attended and graduated the Cochran School of Nursing in Yonkers New York.. While working full time as a staff ICU nurse, Kathy completed her BS in Nursing Science from Mercy College and was inducted as a charter member into the regional division of Sigma Theta Tau, the national honor society for nursing.. Her background has been in adult critical care nursing and she was a certified critical care specialist.. In mid 80s she took one of those "specialty "nursing tours and low and behold who was the tour guide.... Bob.. this is how they met...
Shortly after meeting they knew this was going to be a "forever" relationship . Plans were then started for the move to Cozumel.. House was purchased, wedding performed and in 87 the move was finally complete. Bob had been living on the island for many years previously and Kathy often visited him for extended stays ,but now it would be 100% time on the island. Career change to tourism in a variety of different jobs. Now she runs and operates the Amigo's B&B chain ( Cozumel Bacalar and Isla Holbox Q. Roo) and is mother to Tatiana and Zachary. The Kopelmans have two friendly cats, Missy and Dottie who enjoy the attention they receive from the guests at Amigo's B&B Cozumel!!
Tatiana was born in July of 89 on the island of Cozumel. She is a bilingual child involved in all sorts of activities . For Junior high she attended a local private school,Colegio Americano de Cozumel . Some of the activities Tatiana has participated in include German classes, ballet, jazz dancing, flamenco dancing, basketball,futball-soccer, swimming, and recently worked as an English-Spanish-English translator. She is babysitter to many local children as well...
Zachary was also born on the island in Sept of 93.Like his sister he is also bilingual. He attends a local private school and enjoys reading, 'surfing the internet', playing his game cube/game boy toys and the latest Digimon or Pokemon books and programs. He is an expert in Yu Gi Oh cards and games. He enjoys all types of modern music and often can be seen dancing around the area..
All the Kopelman family members have a special love of travel and have been to several countries on 4 continents. Musical favorites that you might hear played while at Amigo's B&B Cozumel include The Grateful Dead, CSN&Y, Bob Marley, and of course for the young crowd, the Back Street Boys. and Brittany Spears and much more.. Every year Cozumel hosts a large Carnaval or Mardi Gras festival. 2004 was no exception. Here are Tatiana and Zachary posing for photos in front of some of the local street decorations during our festive Carnaval.
For 10th grade, Tatiana was invited to study in southeast Florida, living with her aunt, uncle and cousins.
To celebrate the New Year and enjoy time with cousins, Kathy, Tatiana and Zak went to New York for New Year 2006 to visit family and enjoy the winter!!. Snow experiences, ice skating, and ringing the New Year in Times Square were all part of the trip. Great time was had by all.

She is interested in architecture and interior design. For school year 2006-2007 Zak is in Junior High School at the same private school where Tatiana studied. He graduated primary school number 1 in his class! We are very proud of both our children. ![]() Here is a December 2006 photo of the children. Tatiana is 17 and Zak 13. Bob remains living in Bacalar running the bed and breakfast there, but frequently visits Cozumel. Life goes on! ![]() In April of 2007 a reconciliation between Kathy and Bob took place, and although Bob spends time in Bacalar, he comes very frequently to Cozumel to see the family, and likewise Kathy and kids go to Bacalar to see him. During June of 07 a family trip to Peru took place where all had a good time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cozumel bed and breakfast, Amigo's B&B, awaits you!!! |
